Michelle Novotny
Ryerson University
My name is Michelle, I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours from Ryerson University’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program. I’m currently in my first year of graduate studies in Ryerson University’s Master of Science in Management program, specializing in Hospitality and Tourism Management. In October 2019, I began working as a Research Assistant where I found my passion in sustainable tourism research and education. I have since been credited as a co-author on two publications in well-respected journals in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management and I’m currently undergoing research for my Master’s Thesis. My research experience has primarily been focused on sustainable festivals and events including the drivers and barriers of sustainability practices, special event waste and transportation management, as well as the marketing of sustainable practices. Additionally, I have a certification in Sustainable Meetings and Conventions from The Sustainable Planner (2019). Following my Master’s, I hope to expand my industry experience in tourism policy and research before undertaking a PhD. I’m interested in pursuing a career in sustainable tourism research and post-secondary education.
